Uncas and Emma
No doubt throughout the Pet section of this website I'll talk too much about Emma and Uncas, our huskies, and Pippy and Adam, our cats. They're super great pets, so I thought I'd give them their own page.
Uncas. Some sort of husky.
You know how they say you don't pick your pets they pick you? Well, we didn't have dogs, didn't want a dog, were not in the market for a dog, but somehow we went home with this dog!! We just knew instantly that he was part of our family. We were at the Harbor Fest in South Haven, Michigan in June or July 2005. Just walking around doing fest stuff and saw a cardboard for "Husky Puppies." Inside this plastic red wagon was the only remaining husky (black) sprawled out and sleeping. That's our Uncas. My dad named him after Uncas from The Last of the Mohicans.
Emma. Siberian Husky.
TWO huskies are better than one. There were days I had trouble walking through a room because Uncas kept jumping up and body slamming me! After a year and half it was decided he needed a dog friend for all that husky wrestling stuff. The agenda changed when my parents met Emma, a 1.5 year old husky who had been in a shelter/rescue for a year. She was depressed, stopped eating and was giving up. But when she met our goofball Uncas, she connected with him and he was very caring towards her. She joined the family, got healthy again, and she's 100% our girl. She has a beautiful soul and wears her emotions on her sleeve--and she is one heck of stinker. Emma is amazing. She's incredibly--incredibly--fast and athletic. While she lives to run and just enjoy being outside, Uncas is more of a tracker and observer and if kids are around its a sure bet they'll be herded. I'd like to say she and Uncas are best buds, but I'd classify it more like a brother/sister childhood relationship....she took my toy...he's on my blanket...you get the picture.
